News – Guatemalan General Election

Central America was shaken earlier today when the announcement was made that the Revolutionary Party won nearly 45% of the public votes in the recent General Election, beating the Institutional Democratic Party and the National Liberation Movement into second and third places respectively.

Uncertainty lies over who will be the next President of the country however, as no-one claimed more than 50% of the national vote. This means that Congress will decide between the three front-runners: Julio César Méndez Montenegro, Juan de Dios Aguilar de León, or Miguel Angel Ponciano. Sr. Montenegro is however considered the front runner due to his Revolutionary Party holding the highest number of seats.
